Our Eco Code
We're proud of our school.
Keep it safe,
Keep it clean,
Keep it fun!

Eco-Schools is a recognised award scheme, rewarding and accrediting schools who have made a commitment to continuously improving their environmental performance. The aim of the Eco-Schools programme is to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school -both for pupils and for staff.
We are proud to have achieved our Green Flag for Eco-Schools; have you seen it at the entrance to the school?

The Eco-Schools programme addresses the following topics:
- Biodiversity
- Litter
- Waste
- Energy
- Water
- Transport
- Healthy Living
- School Grounds
The main topics that we have been focusing on this year are:
Our School Grounds
Biodiversity
Here is a taster of some of the things we have been doing:
We have invited outside agencies to come and look at our grounds and give us ideas for improvement. We aim to develop the unused ground by the side entrance to KS1; we will be asking you for ideas for what you'd really like to have in that area.
Work has started on our Courtyard. Ground Maintenance have been working hard cleaning up the area. We are looking forward to using our courtyard more with lovely benches, flowerbeds and a decking area for outside story time and picnics.
One hundred trees were delivered to our school from Sainsburys for our new courtyard.
Look out for our new flowerbeds along the path from the Nursery to the main schol. They look very well.
The P7s made lovely birdboxes for our new courtyard.
The Ulster Wildlife Trust visited our P2s to chat to them about Autumn and Hibernation.
On a smaller scale we are also addressing:
Healthy Living
This was a big focus for us last year. We are proud of the healthy living practice in our school.
We introduced Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as Healthy Break days and provided parents with useful 'Healthy Ideas' leaflets for breaks and packed lunches.
Our Eco Council worked hard to promote the drinking of more water throughout the school day to keep us hydrated and help us concentrate.
We invited a food nutritionalist to school to chat to the staff and children about healthy choices.
Energy

The Green Police patrol our halls at break and lunch turning off lights, computers and interactive whiteboards.
Litter and Waste

The Green Police also collect litter to make sure our school looks tidy! Every classroom has a recycling bin and we even recycle clothes now too! We reuse scrap paper and in general try to reduce the amount of stuff we throw away.
Our Eco Team are working hard to come up with ways to reduce the amount of paper being used in our school.
